about

The Last Days is Spaceship’s seventh full album. As Mark Williamson migrates slowly from the Essex border town of Loughton to new beginnings in West Yorkshire, these tracks reflect his sometimes begrudging relationship with the town. On the Central Line, but not in London; Loughton is, along with Chigwell and Buckhurst Hill, part of Essex’s so called ‘Golden Triangle’. It has become synonymous with footballers in supercars, tanning salons, cosmetic surgery clinics and the structured reality television show ‘The Only Way is Essex’. The album imagines the death of the town. A feedback loop of its own creation. It is interesting that one of Mark’s teenage heroes, was the author Douglas Adams and he found himself living very much in the ‘B’ Arc. In parallel this is also a projection of how the last 12 years will fade into nostalgia and reminiscence. The sharp edges dulled and the frustrations numbed. Loughton might become a distant idyll in comparison with the rugged landscape of West Yorkshire.
